Friday Social and Oyster Talk

On Friday, Jacob from the Blue Marine foundation will be talking about the Solent Oyster Restoration project. In the 20th century the native oysters were over fished. Now the Pacific Oyster is dominant. This project aims to restore 5 million native oysters to the Solent.

Nicola will be serving slow cooked gammon (same recipe as at New Years) with jacket potato and beans / salad. £5, must be booked via webcollect.

Bar opens at 7.30, the talk will start around 8pm.

Membership Secretary

Kelly Semmens has decided that she does not wish to continue as Membership Secretary, so we now need a new Membership Secretary.

The Membership Secretary is the first point of contact with potential new members and should talk/correspond with applicants, give them requested information, and invite them to the next New Members Meeting. The Membership Secretary needs to attend the new members meeting, which is held on the first Friday of every month, and assist with enrolling those who decide to join the club; note that the meeting is also attended by a Flag Officer and other Exec members, as appropriate.

The Membership Secretary is also responsible for issuing club keys to new and existing members and looking after and recording the allocation of Master and other keys to Exec members when they change.

This position fully discharges your Club Duty requirements.

A polite reminder from the Bosun’s Committee.

1. Please can ALL cruiser owners make sure they check their moorings properly BEFORE lift-in so there are no nasty surprises waiting for them when the go to pick up their mooring! This is even more important with several people up-sizing their boats and/or moving to different moorings.
2. Do not use a pressure washer in the compound – last date for this was the end of December – Your neighbours will not appreciate this, specially if they are preparing to anti-foul or paint their boats!
3. Masts – If you have to lower your mast, make sure you have an appropriate number of people to help you – four is minimum for even a small boat.

Unless it is tabernacle mounted, anything but the smallest mast needs some appropriate tackle to lift & lower it. From experience with our old 23 footer, the loads generated by a mast that size cannot be controlled by ropes / block & tackle to the bow fitting – you need people to support it at the back of the boat as well. A falling mast that size could cause horrific injuries, make a mess of your own coach roof and do serious damage to adjacent boats.

Sailing Duties

As hopefully those members who do sailing duties will know, the first half of the years duties were released on the 26th January for attention by the 25th February. Due to finalisation of the calendar a few more dates/duties have been added to the calendar. Could I please ask that you check for these dates in case you need to mark them as ‘Unavailable’.

If anybody does sailing duties but has not received the email you can still login and fined the ‘new duties’ menu item, but please email me at duties so that I can check the site has your correct email address.

Bring and Buy Event

On Friday 1st March there is a bring/buy/swap event.

Lots of boat owners have bits they bought and did not use. Bring any items that you do not want and that others may need. Sell them or swap them for things you do want

To be held in the clubhouse, Friday evening and the bar will be open (for you to spend your ill gotten gains).

Any items too big can be described on paper.
